It is science fiction. It's about a futuristic world after an apocolyptic type demise and the technology that develops afterward. I don't want to ruin the plot. But I read it and it was great. There are bit to make it interesting with action, mystery and in the middle of all of it a bit of a love story. I defenitely recommend it.

Uglies is a "science fiction" book using the term very loosely. It is a utopian/dystopian novel which falls under the umbrella term of science fiction. So no aliens, no dragons, just a teen girl and a few friends making some hard choices in a futuristic world set five hundred plus years into the future. It's a great book.
Ender's Game is a great science fiction book.
As far as fantasy goes, I LOVED the Bartimaeus trilogy.
Amulet of Samarkand is the first in the series by Jonathan Stroud. If you want romance in your fantasy...try Goose Girl by Shannon Hale or Spindle's End or Beauty by Robin McKinley.

Personally I think that Uglies is a great book! You should read it, though its science fiction.... and it has to do with technology and life in the future. If you would give me some good example of what kinds of books you like to read, then I think that i can proably help you out..^_^
