one way of explaining phobias, and that's the main substantial way, is thru classical conditioning. that's the place an conditioned stimulus (the spider) is paired with an unconditioned stimulus that contains with it a an unconditioned (meaning for sure happening) reaction (working example thunder and startle). while the two stimuli are paired ultimately the conditioned stimulus will come to elicit the comparable reaction because of the fact the unconditioned stimulus. So in case you spot a spider and are in a thunderstorm on the comparable time the spider might elicit the comparable responses of the thunderstorm. whether! We come into this international 'arranged' to situation specific issues with oneanother. the thought is that we are extra waiting to associate issues that have been a threat to our ancestors (like spiders) with concern; so waiting that one pairing could be sufficient! we've developed this type because of the fact people who have been extra waiting to make this pairing had a miles better hazard of survival (because of the fact they prevented risks) and for that reason had a miles better hazard of passing on their genes. So that is amazingly probable that at one ingredient once you have been little a spider replaced into paired with a daunting adventure (not inevitably VERY frightening) and due to your developed dispositions your recommendations replaced into extra effective than waiting to make the association between spider and concern. you probable do not undergo in recommendations the pairing because of the fact it exceeded off so early or would possibly not have appeared substantial on the time. the way you recover from an apprehension is experiencing the conditioned stimulus (the spider) without a stimulus which will evoke concern, over the years the association is extinguished. in case you have an interest, that is observed as 'desensitization' or 'flooding'. Take care!

Most spiders are really not scary at all, and most of them are harmless, and actually beneficial...building webs (very artistically!!!) to catch all the flying nasties we don't need. Some people DO have arachniphobia though and are very frightened of ALL spiders, harmless or not. I must admit that I AM terrified (for good reason) of the spiders that I KNOW are poisonous because I have seen the illness that they can cause and it is very dreadful indeed!

A long long time ago our ancestors lived in an environment with poisonous spiders. The ones who were not afraid of spiders would perhaps not be affected by the presence of a spider, and therefore more often be bitten. And the ones who were afraid hid from them, ran away and acted hysterical. They were the ones who survived and got children - and some people will today still have this natural fear of spiders thanks to its former survival purpose.
Also this natural inner fear of spider can be triggered by learning, by experiences with spiders when one grows up, and etc.. Therefore it is easier to learn to be afraid of spiders than of hats and bicycles for example.....

most people are scared of spiders because of something that has happened when they were young. Or it could be because of the simple fact that they are what were the living examples of vampires...and some can poison you...so even cosing death...but I think that makes them kinda cool..

It's just a phobia, and I'm sure it's genetic. Just like a fear of water, or heights, or the dark. My grandfather was deadly afraid of spiders, and so am I. I don't think my mother is though. She can kill them or put them outside...I can't even look at them, I freeze up

This is where learned behavior and instinct come together. The fear of spiders is learned, but it's much easier to teach someone to fear spiders than to fear flowers.

Hmm..well, I wasn't so disgusted by butterflies until I saw them close up on a "Spongebob Squarepants" episode, lol. It's just that they have 8 freaky long legs and three sets of bodies and way too many eyes. I know, it's kinda mean to be afraid of something that may look different, but ugh.
