I would suggest for your age that you try The Key Trilogy: Key of Light/Key of Knowledge/Key of Valor all by Nora Roberts...
....Three women, three keys to find. If one fails, they all lose. If they all succeed - money, power and a new destiny awaits. It will take more than intellect, more than determination. They will have to open their hearts, their minds, and believe that everything and anything is possible..
...Key of Light:- When Mallory Price is issued with an invitation for cocktails at the spooky local mansion, Warrior's Peak, her suspicions are aroused. With her overdraft at crisis limit and on the verge of losing her job she feels she has little to lose by attending.....

If you enjoy this then a whole world of Nora Roberts will have opened to you...she has written loads of books and series too.
Nora Roberts is a fantastic writer and has written and continues to write numerous books.
(She has also written the IN Death series which is set in the future and continues the same story and characters through about 20 books under the name J D Robb ...expertly written also..I love them and have read every one and can't wait on each that is released).
Almost all books that Nora Roberts writes contain strong young women in the lead role as heroine, and have a variety of personalities.....but always have a strong spirit and manage to survive no matter what is thrown at them...even the ones who seem unlikely heroines. I think you may take away a sense of strength and power of being a young woman in todays world, and know that woman power crosses many races, ages and continents. At the end of the day though they are just blooming great stories!!!
I will say though that much as I am a fan of Nora Roberts I would advise against laying judgement by her short stories...I am not most enamoured by these..the quality is just not on par with her novels...although you may disagree with me.

Here's an idea. Choose a meaningul book, such as "Reading Lolita in Tehran". After reading it, read every book referenced in it. In each of those books, read all the referenced books. This can go on for ages. Not only will you gain a better understanding of the first book, but you will gain knowledge of how ideas morph, are adapted, and impact all areas of life. Enjoy! (and it can be any book. "Lolita" is just a suggestion)
