I am a Filipino American. I had been in San Francisco for Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2005. I really cried. It was my first Christmas away from home. San Francisco is nice, however, even though how nice a country is, if you arent with your family, you really feel empty. However, with the Lord, you shouldn't feel empty. However, we are just humans.
This is probably how the Overseas Filipino Workers feel. I think pscyhological counselling should be offered to them especially if this is their first time to get out of the country and will be staying for a 2 or 3 year contract.
When my father was alive, I asked him what place in the world is the most beautiful ( he is a Retired U.S. Navy)? He answered me it is his home because he is with his family.
MABUHAY ang overseas workers. I hope and pray that they be out of danger! I just wish there is no RACIAL DISCRIMINATION which is really impossible.
To other people, Filipinos are often synonymous to prostitues, domestic helpers. In the websites and even here, some people always connote Filipinos as being materialistic, eg. marrying somebody who is as old as their parents or even older than them.
I dont have offencement to these people but I wish that they also realize that we have the best domestic helpers who will really take care of their children and majority are really worth their respect. I have met domestic helpers in Hongkong and they had stayed there for 9-15 years. I salute them! They sacrifice alot for their families.
The disadvantage of being a Filipino is that parents spoil their children even until they get married!

I'm Filipino. Born there, partially raised there, but living in the States now. Chinese ancestry on my mom's side and possibly Portuguese. My dad insists we have Spanish but a lot of Filipinos say that and we can't really be sure...
