The movie is rarely as good as the book. So I don't read the book if I am really looking forward to the movie (actors).
The movie doesn't always leave much room for creative thinking on the part of the viewer. There are some exceptions.
All of that yakking and I don't think I even answered the question!
Quick someone send me a tranquilizer!

I wanted to answer read the book first, but then I thought of all the times that I read a book then saw the movie and was unhappy with the movie because the book was different. I would suggest seeing the movie then reading the book.

Well, if you really like watching movies before reading the book, then watch the movie but me, personally, I would read the book first because then I know everything that happens in it and what the book is about.

If I read a book first I always like it better than the movie. If I see the movie 1st I rarely take the time to read the book. So, I say read the book first.

Personally I think that reading the book is better because then you can really critisize the movie, besides if you watch the movie first then you'll already know what happenes and you wont read the book while if you read the book first you can still be able to watch the movie. But then again it varies for ever person!

Whichever came first. For some reason people put books out based on the movie. They don't do much different, so watching the movie is the best bet, and then you can read the book to see how much talent the book-writer has.
If the book came out first, read it first. They don't tend to change much from the movie-to-book deals, but book-to-movie ones tend to alter a lot. But they keep the gist of it going. For that reason, if you watch the movie first, you may tend to drift when you read the book, and you'll miss out on what the original author did that the movie never got across. This issue would not arise in the movie-to-book deals, because it's not very different.
"Misery," "Dolores Claiborne," and "The Shining" are three that went to movie and weren't as good as the books (but were still good). If you watched the movie first, you'd expect Annie to keep Paul captive by smashing his foot, and you might let your mind wander during that scene. You'd miss out on Annie chopping his foot completely off, showing her invaluable nursing skills.
A must is to read "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" before watching the movie (you've probably already seen the movie a dozen times, though). The movie blew the novella out of the water. I expected a lot after seeing the movie, and it just wasn't in the original. The screenwriter took a lot of liberties that paid off. Usually they cut stuff out, but he added a bunch of extra details.
So yeah, read or watch which came first. The second one is only inspired by the original. Would you rather see Michaelangelo's "David," or your neighbor's replica made of chewing gum? For some reason, the original has more flavor. Bad pun intended.

If it's a good book, then most movie are unable to really capture it. Read the original- normally the book- so you can know how the story really went. If you watch the movie, you may not want to read the book, and more often than not, they're really just not as good- i.e. Lord of the Rings.
The fact that you are asking this question means that you must moderately enjoy both.
What I'm trying to say is read the book because you are robbing yourself of the full experience if you don't.

Book first for sure! Most of the time the book is good but the movie sucks so if you watch the movie first you won't bother with the book.

It's almost always better to read the book first, because your imagination is almost always better than the movie will be. Only very rarely are they equal or is the movie actaully better. Once you have seen the movie before reading the book, your visual images and emotional responses will be fixed and you won't have the full range of possibilities open to you. The book will be disappointing or less than it could be. Also, a lot of material needs to be ommitted from the screen play, so a lot can be missed or misunderstood.

It depends on the person,I think one should read the book first because the book takes you into another world and then watch the movie for entertainment.
