I agree. I've worked for Fortune 500 companies that realized that if they kept selling to the same people they always had, they were going to go broke, since they were saturating their customer market. They decided that if they wanted to succeed in a global marketplace, they had to sell to all sorts of people; and if they didn't have all sorts of people working for them, new customers wouldn't feel comfortable with their company. It wasn't based on doing the "right" thing, it all came down to making money.

I saw Fortune 500 companies strive for a *qualified*, *competent*, diverse staff, if they wanted their organization to succeed. I can't believe how sexist and racist people can be when they hear the word "diversity". Why do "some" people equate diversity with unqualified staff? I see unqualified, incompetent white male staff every day who've had their jobs for years, because no one has the guts to fire them. I also see that when "some" people complain about companies being "pc", they really mean they don't like to see "different" people hired where they work, since it makes "them" feel uncomfortable.

I notice that people who are uncomfortable with "diversity" or use the word "pc" to denigrate today's different business or social practices, often are uncomfortable with how the world is changing around them, and they don't like the changes.

Strongly disagree.

This has become "P.C." because a lot of people don't think very clearly.

What is necessary for organizational success is to have the best people. Period. End of story.

Now, God has distributed tallent, I.Q. and ability on a pretty random basis across the human race. Therefore, in most organizations (not all but most) if you do select people STRICTLY on the basis of ability you will wind up with a certian amount of diversity in your group.

However it is NOT a requirement for success, it is an incidental side effect of having a good organization.

Discriminatory organizations will, by virtue or their discrimination, be forced to pass up tallented people that don't fit their discriminatory mold. Hitler's hatred of the Jews caused many fine Jewish physicists to flee Europe and come over here to build the Atomic Bomb for the Americans. Not hiring blacks meant that Major League Baseball did without the considerable tallent of the many fine players of the ***** League. Even today the Arab world looses the services of half their potential doctors, lawyers, leaders, buisness owners, by discriminating against women and not letting their girls go to school.

So organizations that discriminate have to do without many tallented people, and that can cause them to fail.

But diversity, in and of itself, is not a virture.

In fact, when political correctness forces organizations to lower their formerly high standards in the name of diversity that WEAKENS the organization, and can cause organizational failure.

Too simplistic a question, Kitz. Diversity within the area of expertise of the organization is advisable; outside the area of expertise is questionable; but 'necessary' is dependent upon far too many variables to answer with a straight 'yes' or 'no'.

when most ppl think of diversity they think of like race, sex, or skin color....but i think that to have an organizational success you do need some diversity of the ways ppl think. Since everyone is different, you should avoid conflict.

Absolutely not.
Success is achieved by having the most qualified people in your organization, NOT by having the 'right' skin shade.

'Diversity' is a form of socialist, liberal brainwashing.

Depends on what you mean by diversity. If you mean diversity of people, meaning of color, sex and/or religion...no. Diversity of ideas, yes....that is necessary.
