My wife endures a very long period, almost ten days. She's heard that a high level of estrogen can cause this. Any ideas?

that isnt uncommon.. if she wants she can go to the doc and he can put her on birth control to regulate her period.. but if you are going to TTC then thats bad.

good luck

Yup, other ladies have it. High Estrogen, stress, fibroids, endometroisis, PID, and so many other things can cause long peroids. Probably has bad cramps too, been there. If she ever has such a heavy period that she is soaking a pad or super tampon more than 1/hour she needs to talk to Dr right away. A D & C can help and it will reveal the possible fibroids. A internal ultrasound can too. Going on the pill or shot is an option but other things should be found out first. Fibroids can get very large. Feel for her, rub her back and help out more. It's not fun and not an excuse for not wanting sex !!

I agree with Chula. Your wife needs to see her gynecologist for testing. It could be fibroids but she may also have a condition called endometriosis, which can get very painful and cause her cycle to last even longer than 10 days. I will put her in my prayers that things will get better. I went thru the same thing, I had endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome, I had to end up having a hysterectomy. I didn't add that to scare you or her but she needs to be checked.

My friend always tells me that my period last so long. But my friend is on birth control pills so that's why. My period lasts 7 days.

Peter, I use to go through the same thing, then I found out I had Fibroids. Your Lady should probably get a pelvic ultrasound. This should detect what's going on with the long menses. :)

I have heard it's hormonal. If she goes on birth control pills her periods will become much shorter - 4 days at the most.

She prolly doesn't want to give you any. But if it's true, I feel sorry for her.
