I think you should choose the closest high school that you can afford (if private), that is safe. Then load up on math and science and all the other stuff too. If it is not known for being academically excellent, study your behind off and make it work. Millions of success stories started in shitty schools.
At the same time, you can prepare for college in other ways...social involvement is so important. You can use some of your free time to do some grass roots work that will improve your school. Adults LOVE it when kids dive in to help instead of expecting everything to just be provided. You can help organize tutoring, fundraising, volunteer work by homerooms in the community, mentoring in the special ed department, organize and participate beautification in and around the buildings, talk to administration to get animals on the property to have some hands-on learning, even if it is an aquarium or a butterfly garden outside. You can also help organize shadow days with students following local professionals instead of attending school for the day, field trips, guest speakers like vets or biologists, or zoo staff, local celebrities that may or may not be in your future path, career day, and other learning opportunities. A good choice for you as far as clubs to get any of these things done...may be student council.
In the community, you can volunteer at any charity organization or in a shelter or hospital...especially with regards to animals. You can make some cash pet sitting or boarding animals. You may be able to join advocacy groups for animal affairs...like PETA or groups that support free range livestock farming, or sustainable fishing, or whatever.
Leadership experiences too. FFA and Scouts both have aspects of animal education, Outward Bound teaches wilderness and wildlife skills as well as self improvement, youth group at church is general social involvement with an opportunity to lead. Anytime you can accept an officer's position in one of these organizations, take it.
These will ALL help you when you get ready for college and are trying to get into a good zoology school. You will have quite a resume at a pretty young age, and people looking at you know you have some serious plans.

ok Im going to be a zoologist too and this was my biggest question. Im a sophomore now at Guilford College. In high school I took regular bio, advanced bio, AP bio, Environmental Science, as well as a concurrent enrollment course at a local college. If you can do concurrent enrollment do it!!! trust me it helps, especially if you can get the grades to transfer for college credits. I wish I had done so much more because once you get to college u spend so much time doing regular graduation requirements that it takes away from alot of the classes you actually want to do. Also start interning or volunteering at a local zoo or vet or anything to do with animals because this is one job where experience really counts. if you have anymore questions you can im me on yahoo and i'll try and help. Good luck!

what you can do is take extra biology courses...
as long as you do well in science in high school..
that will open doors for a good college.
carefully pick a college which has a through degree program for biological sciences with emphasis on zoology.
also you might want to volunteer one day a week..saturday or sunday at a zoo..it would look impressive on an application for college..and you will get a good idea of what zoology is like.

The high school you go to, doesn't affect or help you major in anyway. You have to make that decision when you're going to college.

what highschool you go to will not matter at all. just take a lot of biology classes, chemistry and math. cause you're gonna need to take calculus in college for most science majors.

If you take biology ap, that should be a good enough start at any high school.
