As a country becomes more developed, it's birthrate goes down. A good flow of immigrants can keep a country's workforce at the same size or increase it.
Also, immigration brings additional cultural influences into a country. Imagine if we didn't have any German immigrants, would we have Hot Dogs at baseball games? How about Italians? What would that pizza shop at the end of the corner look like.

1) It increases the number of people in the workforce
2) Immigrants bring diversity to a country by bringing their culture, language, religion, and beliefs with them.

They work for less, and do jobs American's find repulsive.
