I am on ortho-tri-cyclen and I'm not due for another yearly checkup for about 6 months. I'd rather not go and have to spend more money. I have a prescription for ortho-tri-cyclen but I want to use it like seasonale, skipping oever the inert pills so I don't get my period. Would this be very bad or would it be fine if I used it like seasonale?

I have asked this question of my nurse practioner and she feels it is fine to do. But never more than three monthes at a time. Especially if you want to be able to go off the pill at some point to have children, if you go too long then you mess up your cycle to the point of stressing more later. People with the norplant or Depo will go months without a period but have to deal with a longer restart of regularity later. Check in with your doc, usually they don't mind just answering a phone call, if you have any problems with clots (leg) or fibroids they may not want you to do this.

i have heard from many people that you should have a period at least every 3 months to prevent the lining of the uterus from buidling up. The buildup can lead to cancer. When i was on the pill, I also took ortho tricylen and my doctor told me it was okay to go straight into the next pack to prevent my period from coming on special occaisons like vacation or prom and such. At your check up you should express interest in a different pill, but in the mean time just make sure you dont go more than 3 months without a period.
