there is a sight called businesses for sale and a lot of them have under the profit colome < 500 k

does that mean it makes more than 500 thousand a year

or what?

This can be anywhere in the range of no money at all to $500,000. I'd be suspicious of earnings stated that way. Find out what the AVERAGE yearly earning are and whether they are going up or down.
