There was a four year old child in my state who was unwanted, mistreated, beaten and abused from the time he was born until the time he was finally beaten to death. No one in this family ever loved this child. It made me so sad. I thought to myself, and I still think, that it would have been better for him if he had never been born. If all he was going to know in his short life was pain and suffering, what was the point?
I am SERIOUSLY struggling with this thought and would appreciate answers that were thoughtful and honest, not bombastic.

firechap20- If there was a loving home for every child, then child abuse would be non-existent and I would be a happy woman. I did ask for serious answers, not simplistic homilies. We've got some VERY good answers here, but that one wasn't it.

Indeed, this is a case where it would have been better to not have been born.
Ideally, every child would be wanted and born into a loving, nurturing home but that is not the case.
The world is already dangerously overpopulated -- I've never understood why some people think there should be more, ever more children.

That's why we need to let women make up thier own minds on abortion. The government needs to keep out of womens personal lives. If awoman doesn't want a child it is better that she get rid of it either through adoption(preferrably). or the other alternative is to abort it. It makes me sick listening to the news about all the children that are abused everyday. Just pick up a paper and you'll read about how a child has died at the hands of thier parents.
These people that abuse and kill children should be put to death. they are no good. But that is another subject.
Abortion is a womans choice and it should stay a womans choice. To hell with what anyone else thinks.
And just for the record I personally do not believe in the killing of a fetus. But if it's between that and a child sufferingf because they were not wanted, Than go ahead and abort it. god will judge you in the end.

Every child should be born to a family that wants and loves them. Adoption is a very good thing, I have siblings that are adopted, but people who argue that people should just put their kids up for adoption instead of getting abortions are ignorant. There is NOT a loving family out there for every parentless child, not by a long shot. Just look at all the facts. Foster system sucks, abuse is rampant. Let's save our taxdollars and use birth control, and if you do get knocked up, do the right thing and get an abortion if your not going to want the child.

There must have been a reason this child was born. Unfortunately, the state as well as our society had failed this child. There are a lot of families looking for children to love and this child could have had this chance. He fell through the cracks. This cannot be an example used for abortion. This does not represent a large percentage of children's lives, even though this boy's life was horrific. I understand the way you feel and understand how you can be questioning such but you must look beyond this one family.

This world is full of pain and evil.
People are starving, there is genocide, there are oppressive and cruel relationships.
Is it better to wish that victims of evil had never been born?
or is it better to wish that evil might be stopped somehow?
For this horrible story, the child should have been given to someone who would love and care for him. Of course, his abusers were probably similarly abused as children. He would probably have grown up to be an abuser just like them. Then you would hate him and want to punish him more by putting him in prison or giving him the chair. Makes you think even more, doesn't it?
The best choice? Not death, but break the cycle of evil

Any practical person will tell you that abortion is okay. 1/3 of the women in this country wouldn't have abortions if that was not the case. Secondly, don't listen to the abortion protesters. They are sad people with miserable lives who only fight for their cause because they probably would have been aborted if they had been conceived in our present day--i.e., they probably were born out of wedlock to poor mothers with a lot of extra baggage. Maybe some of them were adopted or grew up in orphanages. Who knows? They realize people like them won't exist in 20 years and they want to fight to make that not be the case.

Even so he must of had something in his life to make him push to try to stay alive. And whatever that thing was he would have never expierenced if he wasn't born and the short amount of life yes was tragic but still life is life nonetheless I think he would of have been better off living the short life he did.

This is the only reason I can not be against abortion.
If they outlaw abortion, who is going to care for the millions of babies that weren't wanted in the first place?
The number of children who are abused is going to skyrocket.
It makes me sad, too.

I think of it this way...is it more painful for a 4 month old fetus to be killed medically, or for a 4 year old child to be killed brutally after even more emotional suffering
