Dont worry, horses are tougher then you think! He'll be ok. Try using a good fly spray from now on, depending where you live, tick are active year round, Use Endure or a product called Happy Horse, it keeps ticks off! Heres one website www.happyhorseflyspray.com

It's hard to tell whether you got the head or not. At my stables we put stuff that kills ticks all over the horses everyday and that really helps so maybe try that and try putting it in places where the horses can't reach because that's where the ticks usually are e.g. along the mane.

The only sure way is to check the tick and see if its head is still attached.
There will be a hard lump where the tick was after you remove it, but that doesn't mean the head is still there.

You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.
