How come the moon is smaller then the earth?

It's believed that the moon was formed when an object about the size of Mars slammed into Earth not long after it first formed. Much of the debris from that collision was thrown into space and eventually re-formed itself into the sphere we know as the moon. Since the moon actually came from Earth, it only makes sense that it has to be smaller.

The Moon was once part of the Earth. A planet-sized object called Orphious collided with Earth in such a way that both bodies were superheated and a peice broke off and continues to move away from the Earth ever since. As time, we're talking millions of years, passed the material reformed into one large sphere and the material that shot off forms into its own sphere, the Moon.

i think the moon is actually part of the earth but an asteriod hit earth and so, a piece broke out and became the moon.

Probably at one time the moon was bigger than the Earth. The moon is an asteroid that got broken up and was sent hurtling towards the Earth. The smaller asteroid, having less density than the Earth, was sucked into Earths gravitational pull. If the moon was bigger than the Earth, we would orbit the moon, not the other way 'round.

And if it was bigger than earth, we wouldn't call it a moon.
