Where do you live? In the sunbelt is not uncommon. Contact your local utility, I'm sure they have the specifics.

There is more to it than that.

But not by much.

You'll have to install an isolator so the utility guys can shut you off if they have to work on the grid.

The work on your end will have to be inspected by the local government.

Expect to sell your electricity to the grid for about 1/3 of their selling price. In other words, you'll have to make 3 times the power you use to break even. Not as bad as it sounds though. I encourage to do it if you want to.

They will supply the 2-way meter.

Basically you check with your energy provider as to whether they support you putting power back to the grid (some don't) then once you find one that does they will be able to send someone out to replace your current meter, but note they buy it off you at a much reduced rate, and also be warned that with solar panels going back into the grid and a normal meter it will think its been tampered with and clock up about 5 times as fast. but I'm talking from an Australian perspective
