Actually, the movement to which tank is referering was in the 1700's.

In arts, music, etc...: Romanrism, impressionism, futurism, realism, abstract, the beginnings of surrealism, verismo. In society: nationalism, both a political and intellectual movement.

Prohibition and the Temperance movement got big pushes from the late 1800's-1919 when the Volstead act was passed making alcohol consumption illegal in the US. Jim Crow came into being with the idea of separate but equal becoming law after the 1896 case of Plessy vs Ferguson. The Progressive movement was huge with William Jennings Bryant running for President several times. Also the Spanish American War made the US a true world power in the eyes of Europe. It started the US on a policy of Imperialism that still exists today.

early 1900s? i hope this isn't too late but the Women's Suffrage movement, and the us gaining the right to vote in 1920. If this isn't an American thing, i believe that in Great Britain women could vote in 1919, but I could be wrong.

well you can start with the age reason otherwise known as the age of Enlightenment you can look up about the French philosophies such as Voltaire. Rousseau. then you can go for Mozart, Beethoven among others. hope that gets you thinking.
