Use the formula D = RT where D is distance, R is the rate of speed, and T is the time.So, 45 = 15/4R (I changed 3 3/4 hours to an improper fraction). Cross multiply and you get 180 = 15R. Divide by 15 and you get R = 12mph.

45/1 divided by 15/4=
45/1 x 4/15 15 becomes 1 and 45 becomes 3
3x4=12 milesper hour
