Tarn is one word, defined in the source below as "a small mountain lake, usually occupying a cirque."
But the cirque is NOT a lake. The cirque, also known as a corrie or, in Wales, as a c-u-m (I had to spell it so it wouldn't get censored in this post), is the "deep, rounded hollow with steep sides," formed by glaciation, in which the tarn is found.

The word you seek is probably "tarn" but this is technically a lake formed by glaciation so wouldn't apply to all mountain lakes.

Loch or Tarn depending on the local geology and topiary of the location of the expanse of water.

if it's a rather small and shallow affair, it's a "tarn";
if it's deep, quite large and it's nestled in amongst large, steep-sided peaks, it's probably been formed by a glacier. such lakes are called "cirques".
hope this helps,
