obvious pros and cons are if I go alone, I get to do what I want, when I want and choose, so there is greater freedom. If I go with someone else we share the experience, the costs and also the limitations that come with compromise and negotiation, etc. I've thought it through and still find myself on the fence, so I am putting it out there for some feedback.

Well, if you go with someone be sure you share compatible traveling personalities or the little things can add up-like do the windows stay opened or closed, what kind of music you listen to or do you even want to listen to music, etc. Did you hear about the road trip that Oprah made with her best friend Gayle. Oprah was miserable because Gayle wanted to listen to music and sing and Oprah wanted to be quiet with her thoughts.

If you go alone will you get lonely, or do you need the thinking peace along with the trip. I like to be around people...
If you do bring someone, think about will this person just plain bug you. You are on track with the sharing expenses and compromise, but I would add the getting on nerves part. Your most dear friend might drive you nuts, or you could make a memory to treasure for life.
Have a wonderful time either way! And be safe, smart night time safety, well lit places, locked doors, have a check in buddy at home to worry if they don't hear from you.
