I have a dilemma, my mother evicted 8 mnths ago who also has a severe mental illness was being looked after by the council who homed her, now they are saying they will put her on the street because she has equity, the prob is, i just found out today that the house was sold and we knew nothing about it, of course there is a surplus, they never contacted anyone, despite the social worker being actively involved and them having her number, and mothers permission, nor me whose adress they had and consent to talk to me letter.
Mum is schizophrenic, and i need to know ho wcan I stop the council placing her on the street and not paying her room. She is unable to work , and merely spends days sitting alone not talking or anything, the social worker says they were told they need to cut their budget and mother will not be a responsability to them any more.how cani challenge this? help. I am unable to take mum on as i am pregnant with one son already and live in a studio

If your Mom now has money and does not qualify for public assistance, can you not use her money to pay privately for a like housing situation until the money is used up for her care and keep. Then she will once again qualify for public assistance. I suppose public assistance qualifications are different depending where you live. If she was here in Maryland and had funds she could be placed in an Assisted Living facility or a nursing home. Or am I not understanding your situation ?

I dont know the laws where you come from but two princips should be looked at here.

1. could it be legal to sale the house that way? get a lawyer on that.
2. can she (or you help her with it) apeal against the councils desicion is, there rights for people with mental ilness in your country? is there a legal procdure so you can complain and maybe get a other decision?

in my county its illegal sale other peoples property contracts and so on and mental ill people have right to be looked after care and housing. is there some organisation so you can get help on this issues?

Well dont give up fight them.

hope all goes well!

Contact a lawyer. If you can not afford one, ask if your state has a legal aid chapter. You can get legal counsel for free from legal aid.
You may also try Senior citizen centers, talk to a social worker at a hospital or mental health center, and you may even try contacting your state and local government representatives, such as your governor, senator and local reps. Good luck.

Contact a lawyer, always in these type of cases, this is your best bet.
