im 13, and all of my friends have had physicals. They say that the doctor looks "down there" to make sure everything is okay. Why am i the only one that hasn't gotten a physical yet, and what exactly do they do at physicals?

You don't need a doctor to "look down there" when you are 13.

You don't get an exam down there until you become sexually active. Hopefully, you won't become sexually active until you are 18 or older.

Ask your mother why she doesn't take you for yearly physical any more. You should be seen by the doc for a yearly physical every year. During a phyiscal the nurse and doc will weigh you and check your height, check your blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temperature. The doc will check your eyes, ears, nose thoat and mouth and feel your neck to check for swollen glands. He will listen to your heart and lungs with a stethoscope. The doc will check you for scoliosis aka curvature of the spine and check your reflexes with the little hammer. He will check your feet and check your abdomen to be sure everything feels ok by pressing on your stomach with his hand. If he checks your genital area he only checks the outside of your vagina to be sure everything looks ok. Sounds like you mother has not been getting you in to the doc for your yearly checkup or you wouldn't be asking what happens at a yearly check up.

A Dr has no need to look "down there" until you become sexually active and then it is recommended once a yr....yes it is uncomfortable but so are the diseases they are checking for....if you aren't sexually active do yourself a favor and stay that way....there are too many sexually transmitted diseases out there and you are too young to be dealing with things like that and if you do become sexually active use condoms....NO MATTER WHAT.....even then you aren't %100 safe. Good Luck!!

Your friends' parents scheduled them for a physical. They don't do an internal exam unless there is a reason. Generally height, weight, listen to lungs, heart, and hand on the stomach and they check the butt hole.

when i had mine for sports.. they will check your spine by having you bend over to touch your toes.. usually kinda push on your stomach while lying down (checking for swelling, hardness, lumps ect) in all the years i had mine they never looked or touched "down there"... the do for boys since that is how they check for hernias or tears in the lower pelvic region's muscles ( when they make them cough) but as a girl its not as invasive.. they might check your knee joints.. basically they just wanna make sure your ok... (i don't think i ever had one last more than 15 mins, very fast)... its not to bad.. good luck
