It's an ancient voodoo practice. In olden days when a young voodoo male wished to take a bride, he was required to choose another male in the voodoo village who would most likely be his competition, so to speak. The two voodoo males would then battle it out in a swordfight--I can't really say any more about the "swords" they would use. Anyway the winner of the voodoo duel would then get the loser's heart as a prize, which the voodoo winner would then wear on his sleeve.
