Do as I say not as I do. This could be a conservative mantra.

I did not state that very well. WWII was the last war in which the well to do fought along side the poor and impoverished. Very few sons and daughters of our political leaders serve in the military. It just seems that if the war on terror affects all of us then those who benefit the most from our society should fight alongside those who have benefited far less. It is unusual to have a take cut in time of war, a tax cut that disproportionately benefits those who make the most.

Oh Gyorzxk...I do agree with every word of every political question you post! I'm betting all of those opposing you here are Republicans with money. Thank you for speaking up for the lower and middle classes! I believe it's the middle class who gets beaten up the most! I wish I had those 8 years of the Clinton Administration back...maybe we'd all appreciate that wonderful booming economy more knowing what was to come. The main thing I am thankful for now is that with a Democratic controlled House and Senate, W won't be able to ruin our Social Security System by giving it away to the rich...oops, sorry...I mean privitizing it.

Let's fac facts. Our country is based on power, money, who you know and what you know. The poor or working class america have the least to loose so they have only to worry about a 9 to 5 and how rent is going to get paid. It's a true struggel for them if they do'nt have much to loose. So when you have more to loose you spend more time or pay some one else to think for you in order to protect what makes it easy for you to get power, hide money, and pay people off inorder to pay the least on the most that you have. Even during WWII the rich had a lot more to loose if the war had truly hit American soil.

The rich benefit the most (with certain tax breaks) because they pay the most.

If it were not for the consumption of goods and services & reinvestment of capital into this country by the rich, we ALL would suffer. It is the rich that keep the money flowing in this country, and the more rich people there are, the more EVERYONE benefits.

What are you trying to express , aside from frustration w your life? I am a middle class Democrat earning under $30K a year, by the way. I try not to maximize my earnings , as my Democratic friends would take away most of it for programs for those less blessed than I happen to be.

Am I RICH by your standards? Why should someone who has worked their way up to a nice income have to pay more than double the tax rate as someone who is less motivated or driven to be successful?

ANYONE in this country can get a degree if they choose to take that course & WORK for it....not just the "Rich Conservative Republicans"

Why should I have to subsidize the people who want everything handed to them by the government? I'll support my familly , friends (if needed) , & charities of MY CHOICE !! NOT YOURS or the government's......

You have been misled by partisans of the true facts about the equity of our tax system.

For example:
"Internal Revenue Service data for 1994 on the distribution of the tax burden make clear again that the vast bulk of the federal income tax burden is borne by the rich.

The top 1 percent of taxpayers, those with adjusted gross incomes (AGI) above $196,000, paid 29 percent of all income taxes.

The top 5 percent of taxpayers, with incomes above $91,000, bore almost half of the federal income tax burden.

By contrast, the bottom 50 percent of taxpayers, those with incomes below $22,000, paid less than 5 percent of all income taxes."

also:
"For the most part, bracket creep tends to shift the burden of taxation from higher- to lower-income families. Since the highest-income families are already in the highest tax bracket, they can not be pushed into a higher bracket by the effects of inflation alone. This of course is not true of middle- and lower-income families"

This data closely relates to the current tax burden as well.

You are correct to assume that those who benefit most pay the least. Low income taxpayers recieve many government grants and subsidies unavailable to the wealthy..

The tax system actually goes by the milk of human kindness. Those who are rich in that area, pay the most.

So why is it that Liberals like Al "I invented the Internet" Gore give the least to charity and use the most power. Maybe it should be the liberal mantra.

The wealthy pay more taxes than any other income group. Document your statement. You may be right about one. Ted Kennedy has his family wealth in Fiji to avoid paying U.S. taxes.
