i'm planning to get a vaio 11.1" and they're only available with core solo processors. is core 2 duo much better than core solo that its worth giving up the 11.1 i really like and getting a 13" because it's available with core 2 duo?

please advise. the laptop will be mainly used for web development and some games.

thank you for your help.

Hi,

My advice is: buy a dual core (Core 2 Duo) only and only if your web-development software uses it. Otherwise, its just wasted money. Almost all programs today work on a single core (except for specially created programs that take advantage of the second core), so it won't make that much of a difference if you buy a dual core and the program you're using is made for a single core processor (e.g. uses only one core).

Other than that, Core 2 Duo is as energy efficient, as powerful and as silent as the single core one. ;)

Hope I could help,
Regards,
TK

It's not always the best idea for a dual core processor on a laptop. Unless your laptop is going to be your primary computer, use Core Solo. They save more energy than dual cores, and run cooler and perhaps even less noisier (the fan). Dual core processors only run with both cores if you are running a sort of 64 bit, or dual core optimized software.

Intel has found a cheap way of providing a single core duo chip....What actually happens at the factory if a core 2 duo fails to run both cores, it is tested to see if at least one core is operating, if so, it is sold as a core solo.....It is literally a core 2 duo that only has one core operating.....
The core solo is fine to use for your laptop, it uses very little power....
If you want more power, go for the core 2 duo.....2 times the processor!

gime a sec, ill look up that link for you to check out....

Update: Nice screen name....very original....lol
