They always keep an open mind about what the buyer needs (not what they want the buyer to need so they can close a sale) and proceeds to find the solutions. In other words, what's on their mind is not what they want to sell but how they can help the buyer. Then they ask the buyer if the suggested solution will help them, and ask to proceed with it.
These types of salesmen will get additional referrals without even asking for it. While the one whose only concern is to close the sale (sell his product) will surely narrow his market until no one wants to buy from him anymore.

1.) Know who you're selling to and be adaptable. Be able to change your selling style to fit your audience. Not everyone can be sold in the same way. 2.) Know your product inside and out and be confident. People will sense if you could care less about what you're selling and just trying to sell them. 3.)ASK for the sale repeatedly throughout your sales pitch. No one's just going to give you the sale, you have to ask.
