All the talk about the "promote the general welfare" in the preamble to the Constitution being a blank check for the expansion of the social welfare state, even though it is by no means a law, just a description of the intent of the document, makes my brain hurt. The laws themselves are in the body, not the intro. There is no constitutional basis for any social service. It took an amendment just to ban booze, something simple, but all these tax theft neo-communist (neo-com) social programs are forced upon us with no legal backing. Public schools, public healthcare, welfare, social securtiy, the DEA, ATF, FDA, IRS, even the CIA and FBI have no right to exist under our Founding Documents, but the neo-coms want to not only expand all of them, but create new ones as well to make us wards of the state, no better than a filthy European! Not really a question, more of a rant. Opinions?

I completely agree. The neo-coms are the real threat to the American way of life. Now, what do you want to DO about it?

Always keep the purpose or purposes in mind (a basic rule of sound thinking) -- that's what the Preamble is, a list of purposes for constituting the government of the United States of America.

You're wrong to suggest we should ignore it -- it's the most important part, the part by which interpretation of everything else should be based on.

The government takes our tax money; we should have a say in what it's spent on.

Most Americans don't want people to starve or go without health care.

Most Americans understand that education is good for the country, as well as for each citizen.

Most Americans don't want to give their money to the already-rich, or waste it on arms we don't need, or subsidize arming or otherwise maiming the world.

BTW, the Constitution doesn't have laws -- laws are passed by legislative bodies and must conform with the Constitution.

The Constitution sets out the structure and duties and functions of government, and its limits.

Social programs were initially intended to help the truly needy and now are totally exploited. It has created a generation of people intent on living on the government. These people are really just lazy and know the first of the month will always come. I do think some are necessary and that doesn't make me a "neo-com" or communist of any type.

I should recant my idea of understanding your point. You are more of a commie than I am. You warp what our constitution into your own agenda. I would guess you to be an originalist when it comes to interpritting the Constitution. Better get out your by-plane and muzzle loaded rifle. Your outnumbered.

There are no Neo-Coms. There are no "Progressives."

It's the ghost of the Third Comintern.

Again.

(While we're at it, the "Neo-Cons" are a stooge act, too. Where's Goldwater and the pioneers who built this country? Are we all emasculated surrender monkeys like our current Congress? ...But excuse me--I, too, rant!)

All American markets (like the Fed) are a scam.

Put that in your hat and smoke it.

They are convinced that god is on their side and that whatever they do is going to succeed.

The neocons are essentially without any political philosophy other than that might makes right and that the end justifies the means.

In this, neocons and al quida are birds of a feather.

I think you should look at which of those organizations are beneficial.
For example, social security should be a choice.
