I don't agree with you that marriage is no longer precious rather i would say that most people no longer take marriage seriously.Marriage is not for immature adults or for teens with raging hormones. When we don't know the normal use or importance of somthing we tend to abuse it. Divorce rate is alarminly high because most people marry for the wrong reasons. Marriage based on true love is decreasing daily. If a guy marries a woman because he thinks she is sexy or because she has a great figure that marriage is doomed from the begining. This is because when the lady is no longer sexy or good looking, his love for her fades. Any marriage that is built on a shaky foundation will never last. The only way a man or a woman can truly prove that they love each other is by making a commitment. You don't do that by holding hands in the park, kissing on t.v or making out in public places. That terrorists use guns to kill people does not make guns illegal for cops. It all depends on the motive and right usage.

Not at all. There are more ways to commit to someone rather than sign your life away on a bit of paper. By all means, have kids and joint financial stuff, support each other, but don't expect it to last forever - if you do that stuff, just make sure it is with someone that you can be civil to forever!
We live in an instant gratification culture and that alone does not promote marriage as an institution and something to work at. The best you can hope for is someone who makes you happy and secure at the present time because who knows what will happen tomorrow? At the end of the day, 50% of marriages in the UK end in divorce apparently...

No one can 'make' anything 'feel' anything, and certainly not precious or special.
Is it important to value the feeling of love and commitment.....?
It's IMPORTANT to value any emotion.
I'm pretty certain that 'commitment' is not a feeling! It's more likely a value judgement ..from which springs feelings and emotion.
'Marriage' is, or is supposedly, a 'bonding' of Two into One.' If you don't value it, then there is a fundamental flaw which would best be served by looking at it.
I really don't know why you are asking this as a Question when I feel sure that what you really are doing is making a Statement that you want tested by the opinions of others on.

OMG yes. that is the simple answer, i have known and lost, love. and marriage is still as important to me as it was the day i gave my vows which i promised would never be broken. But somtimes you cant keep your promises, no matter how you try. I am currently writing a book on loss and relationship loss will be part of it but while i write you this i am still looking for that partner i want to spend my life with. And that means marriges and everything that comes with it

My relationshp with Lesley started in 1993, we made a home together in 94. Had our first child in 95, a gorgeous bundle of loveliness called Jasmin. Our second little one came along in 98, and what a handfull HE was.....lol. Reece is his name and i wouldnt change him for the world.
We finally tied the knot in 2000 and before then, i was of the attitude that it was all just an unnecessary expence for a piece of paper....etc... I didn't need that piece of paper to prove my love.....blah blah....
The Big Day arrived and i had not a care in the world, just something i had to endure to keep the other half sweet......until 3.15pm, when the Wedding March begun. It hit me like a sledgehammer.....i wouldn't dare look down the aisle behind me, because i knew that as soon as i layed eyes on my beautiful wife-to-be , i wouldn't be able to hold back my emotions. I reached the second line of my vows before i was overcome......i cried like a baby as soon as i looked into her eyes. I sobbed my way through it though, and the rest of the day was a blur, (southern comfort helped.....lol).
We've been married now for 6 and a half years, and we kiss and say i love you whenever we part, (even if just to walk to the shop), and it never seems tiring. We've had our rocky patches like everyone, but with love and most of all, RESPECT, we seem to struggle through and back into the love bubble.
Yes....sure....i was in love with her before we were married, but since being wed, it just seems like we really are one.
If you knew me, you wouldn't think of me as your typical soppy, soft soap......but i'll gladly admit to anyone that, yes, i am the luckiest man in the world, and it IS ok to be jealous....go on.....lol.

Marriage is just a social institution - it has sod all to do with love or relationships. The sooner people realise that the sooner we can all move on from bemoaning the death of marriage.

Love leads to commitment.
People these days honestly don't know what love is.
Use of the word too much. People don't expect anything more but i love you. you love me, lets get married.
They don't know what they want.
They just assume well since i love so and so its gonna work out.
