That's hard. Being a New Yorker, we know the Empire State Building and it is close to Macy's. I did work on the Empire State Building but just visit the top once.
For me, when I am tourist, I just like to walk and are not interested landmarks. Like when I went to Paris for my 20th birthday, I was not interested to go to see the Eifflel Tower or the Louvre museum, except I had to visit Mona Lisa and that was not worth it, it is just a painting and it is very small. Nevertheless, I took a train going nowhere and I found myself close to the Eiffel Tower. Again, it was not worth it.
Yet, one day, walking on the Seine River, I went into a gothic building and I liked it. I did not know what that was, until I left, I had visited Notre Dame and I was happy.

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is awesome. It's so haunting and amazing to be in the middle of the harbor on the tours.
I also like the Battle of Oriskany, NY monument. It's not well publicized because the town's so small, but there was a big Revolutionary War battle there in August 1777. It's beautiful, haunting and breath taking!

Tough question as there are so many known the world over....by "best", I'm assuming you mean the "most recognizable." Its a tie between the Eiffel Tower and the pyramids. The Statue of Liberty is a very close third, in my opinion.

Its not my favorite landmark, but I think the 'Statue of Liberty' is pretty cool, because of what it stands for-freedom.
Its something that we all take for granted now, cause we think we are entitled to it, but history will show you that people fought long and hard for it. The statue should remind people of that.
