The only way to be sure is to take everything out of it, including the racks and climb inside and shut the door.

Fun answer: Put your toddler inside and close the fridge. Then ask him/her if the light turns off. (j/k)

Real answer. There's a little button in the fridge somewhere that when pressed turns the light off. The door hits this button when it shuts. You can also press it when the door is open to see the light go out.

Ok, now for a serious answer. Pushing the button is no guarantee the light is going out. If the door is not adjusted properly it can miss the switch. If the light is staying on the ref. temp. will not not go down to 38 to 40 degrees. You can sure tell that if the milk and beer is warm. Generally the light will go out just before the door closes completly and you can see that happen. If the door is not adjusted properly and you are not up to the task to adjust it, put a few layers of tape on the door panel just below the switch.

in most fridges there is a button that is pressed by the door closing that turns the light off when pressed.

in some of the newer high tech fridges its a sensor similar to the alarms on windows with the metal plates.

There is a push button that you can see or feel for.

When you push that in, if the light goes off, it goes off.

As the door to your fridge is fixed to push that button.
