About 4 months ago I got a lump on my upper finger joint. It went away about 4 weeks later. It returned after around a month, then went away again. Now I have it on my next finger along. When I say lumps, they are more of a swelling up around the joint, and you can feel a bump. It is quite red and a little sore, and stands out next to my other fingers. Someone suggested it could be arthritis, but I am only 22, so would hope not so young?!

gutted to hear of younger sufferers of arthritis! its my writing hand too which aint good. not too painful, feels quite stiff, more of an ache really... feels almost bruised to touch. the reason i haven't seen a doctor yet, is because whenever i go, (which isn't often) they make me feel like they aren't interested and i'm wasting time there.

Lumps On Finger Joints

If all the 'lumps' are on the distil (upper) joints they may be Heberden's nodes which are a feature of arthritis. If by any chance you have psoriasis, finger arthritis can occur together with this in very young people. Rheumatoid arthritis can present from early childhood.

Of course you are not really going to get a reliable diagnosis on 'Answers' even from a professional. Go see your doctor.

Are they painful? You didn't say.

There is a serious form of Rheumatoid arthritis called Juvenile RA. It starts in very young people. Mine began after 55 and compared to some it is mild. But some days are quite painful.

Ibuprofen is helpful in eliminating swelling and inflammation.

Take a very healthy ration of vitamins and or eat an excellent diet. Many people have told me that meats cause what they call a flare or a comeback of severe symptoms.

See your Doctor so you can get diagnosed. You are much to young to ignore it.

It could be gout! Or Arthritis! Or a number of similar conditions! You need to see your GP for a proper diagnosis! Arthritis has 100's of different types and can strike at any age! The youngest I've known was 2!

Without seeing the lumps on your fingers, I am guessing they may be Heberdon's nodes. Arthritis can affect anyone at any age. A doctor called a rheumatologist is who you should see. Good luck.

quite likely to be arthritis..it tends to do this lump thing for quite a while before it settles in to do damage to the joint. Why dont you go to a dr and get checked. And dont think that you are too young..there are babies and young children born with forms of arthritis.Arthritis is not a condition of age its a condition of your joints

Your best course of action would be to see your primary dr and have blood work done and it will tell if you have arthritis. Or ask to be referred to a Specialist and that way you will know for sure. Best to get it checked out. There is no age limit on arthritis that I know of.

It sounds like ra (rheumatoid arthritis). Yeah one would think 22 is too young, but look it up it can happen at that age. Your symptoms suggest a visit to your doctor who can advise you to seek an ra specialist. Good luck.
