let's say i find that a certain mutant form of amyloid protein develops into alzheimer's related plaques later in life. what good can i do with that knowledge besides being able to prenatally screen for that gene or providing better genetic counseling? please be detailed,, thanks!

Seems like you're a doctor (or supposing to be one for this question)...so find a way to defuse that mutant protein or change it into a non-mutant protein. And/or work with those companies developing "anti-plaque" medicines (I know they exist because my dad is testing one, for Merk I believe) to target this specific type of plaque.
