if we as consumers, stuck together and aimed for a common goal i.e. NOT buy, would we force retailers to reduce prices, for example, if we all stopped paying over the ODDS for luxury items, would the prices fall in line with the rest of the world?

i ask because, i feel RIPPED off, living in Britain!!

Market forces always drive the price of a retail object. However the lack of purchase by the massas would drive the price so far and then production would stop when the price become untenable for the manufacturer. So there is abreak even point in manufacturing and then its the retail mark-up that does the rest. Why do you think Electronic's are always expensive when they are just Launched. Its not the manufacturing costs that make that its the retailers and the Manufacturers expectations that do that. It does not take 450 pounds to make a Playstation 3. I could have brought one in America before christmas for around the equivalent of 200. So rip off britain is right.

If consumer demand shunk permanently for an item, the price would go down. If the demand were shrunk artifically by a boycott or something, then the prices would bounce back or not change at all.

On many items packaging is a factor that creates more demand for the item by the consumer, depending on the cost of the packaging that will increase profits and the manufacturer can recoup those costs by charging the higher prices that the increased demand allows.

I feel ripped off as we thieves and shop security. If there was no ar*eholes which stole from others then we would pay less anyway.

If there was no cameras, plastic packaging, thieves, tag detectors, etc. Then the shops wouldn't need as much to break even, so sell them for less.

Plus with less packaging which is just going to get binned, then oil would last longer as well.

Have you seen the amount of packaging on razor blades, just because they are stole the most. Prices almost doubled ! ! !
