I was homeless for 6 months. I finally got my life back on track with a job and an apartment which I have maintained for 2 years. I would like to hear other peoples experiences who has been homeless or has had a loved on homeless. What lessons did you learn, why did you become homeless and what you did to overcome it.

I was because I ran away from home and started getting wasted and high daily. I just stayed at one friend's house, and another's and drifted here to there sometimes staying at the salvation army shelter. I didn't care about anything and didn't know what to do and just had no direction basically.

The lessons I learned were that I never want to be in that position again, or around those types of people again, or doing things like that again. I look back and thing "What a loser!" and I think of all the positive things I could have been doing with my life at that time.

I overcame it when I got pregnant and decided that I couldn't bring my baby into this lifestyle, so I called up an old boyfriend who lived away from the city and went to stay with him. It was going to be "just until the baby was born" but we got together and got married. We now have a nice house and car, etc I am 23 and just a regular soccer mom.

I am going to do everything in my power to make sure my children don't make the same mistakes I did.

I lived in a tent for a couple of years. I learned that it is a matter of attitude, not so bad if you accept it. I got out of that situation by getting shot up and shipped off to Germany for major surgery. I am still in the Army, and intend to stay. Once I learn to fully use my new limbs, I should be quite capable.
