Gotta go with the Sabres,Last year injuries kept them from the big dance but they proved this year that with 7 or so of the key men out the pulled from there farm team and still maintained 1st place lead. Just think if there key guys were still playing no telling how many points they would have. I am a little scared on the back up goal tender. But will stay postive. Sabres Stanley Cup Champions 2006-2007. Finally

Buffalo. They have the goal tending, and their offense is young and relentless. If you want a team that can take the Stanley cup, you have to look at Nashville or Detroit. Nashville has the experience, along with the young legs. Detroit also has the experienced players like lidstrom and Schneider, especially now that they picked up bertuzzi they're going to be good in the playoffs

Although I'm a Sharks fan, CURRENTLY the best team right now would probably be the Buffalo Sabres. You look at their stellar offense and goals scored, and theres pretty much no competition (maybe Nashville, but we'll see). As far as the Stanley Cup though, I think they'll make it to finals (cuz they went to eastern conf finals last year, and that should be no problem once again) but lose.

Minnesota Wild
They have the best overall goaltending in the league, they have an explosive offense in Gaborik and Rolston, and they have battled injuries all seasons. They seem to always be underdogs that end up winning, and they'll make a serious Stanley Cup run.

I posted on an earlier thread this year for everyone to start saving your cash for a deep playoff run. So far, it doesn't look too bad. But yes, it's still too early to say anything. Except, of course, that Vancouver will be battling Columbus and Phoenix all season for DEAD LAST in the Western Conference...
This was posted on a Minnisota Wild message board haha Vancouver in a dead last more or less battling for the cup :D\
To the person who likes flames and canucks I agree with you on the Canucks part but the flames?

I am a red wings fan... that being said i think that they have the best potential in the leagu but since they dont work hard, they arent the best (what they can and should be) Who is the best team now? Probably minnesota... who will win it all? after last year, who knows.

Canucks - Sabres - Wild
Vancouver is one of if not the hottest team since the All Star break. their goalie currently leads the NHL in Wins.
Minny is also in good form as of late. great win streak going too. Not in as good form as Vancouver since the All Star Break but none the less in very good form (did lose to Vancouver last week though).
Sabres had that great start to the season. Been steady all year really but looking a bit slippy as of late. Barely 500 for their last 10 games.
All in all I say Vancouver or the Wild strickly because they play in a more competitive Conference. IF Buffalo were in the Western Conference I realy doubt they'd do as well. east is pretty weak competively speaking. 8th in the West is currently worth 6th in east with game in hand.

In what aspect? Historically or modern? Offensive or defensive?
I"m going to say the Canes. they are the best team right now, they have defined the new style of play for the new set of rules.
Of all time It would be the Habs, they have th most cups and have had many of the most well known players in the game play for them.

My obvious, less than reasoned answer would be the Leafs. The real best team right now, and I hate to say this, is Buffalo...they will contend for the Cup this year.
