I went in for my 18 week ultrasound, I was exactly 18 weeks according to my first ultrasound and my ovulation date.

My baby is measuring 18 weeks and 5 days.

Will my doctor keep my original due date or will they push my due date up 5 days earlier?

How does this work? What does this mean?

Thanks!

The measurements are just an average of measurements for that gestational age......its just an approximate....it would be like saying all babies will weigh 7 lbs 8 ozs when they are born and be 19 inches long. They have made these averages so that they will be able to tell if your baby was way off or too big or small for gestational age......if your were measuring 2-4 weeks too small or too big for your dates, they would look into why (diabetes, IUGR, etc.), but most likely not change your dates.

Good luck!!

Your due date is your due date, regardless of measurements. Noone can tell you exactly when you conceived, even if you only had sex on a certain day you may not have ovulated that day and sperm can live inside you for a few days. Everything is guesses and averages at this stage!

So dates and measurements can easily be off by days or even weeks with no problem. Ultrasound measurements are notoriously inaccurate, don't read too much into it!! Sounds like everything is going well.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Enjoy it!

Your due date is always approximate. Your baby will come when it's ready. My due date with my son changed three times, from May 14 to May 6 to May 3. He was born on April 18 full term and fine. So the due date was still off.

Congrats, Good luck, and God Bless

He will not change your due date. I was measuring ahead with my first child. My doctor gave me another ultrasound and the baby was measuring large (especially his head). He ended up inducing me two weeks earlier. I gave birth to a 9 pound baby boy. Your "due date" will continue to fluctuate.

I have been measuring two weeks ahead, my doctor did not change my due date. The first due date must have been right, im due in two days. I guess im just going to have a big baby.

He may try. If you know your ovulation date, your true due date is 40 weeks from then. However, if the baby is especially large, he may try to move the date up to keep you from having a difficult labor or a C-section. Don't worry. "On time" is anywhere from 36 to 42 weeks. If he moves it up a day or two, it really won't matter.

The earlier the ultrasound, the more accurate it will be in dating the pregnancy. Thus, it is unlikely that your doctor will change the due date based on this later ultrasound.

*I had an ultrasound the morning I was induced, and it was off by nearly an entire lb.

He will not change your due date. It is just an estimate any how.
