Why won't my laptop turn on?

I recently got a Mac OS x laptop and it suddenly will not turn on. It's fully charged (at least the light says so when I plug in the charger), so I don't understand what the problem is. Any suggestions? I'm new to mac and am utterly lost. Help!

unplug it remove the battery wait about 30 seconds plug it back in and try to start it if it starts then shut it back down reinstall the battery and try again
