showed no appreciation for all the hard work you put in to a short staffed day. I'm a recovery assistant that works my tail off for 1 doctor out of 2. A lot of the times the other doctors recovery assistant takes time off on the busiest days and leaves me to pull all of her weight too. Today was one of those days. I did the work of 2 people's jobs and sighed at one point. He then pulled me aside and told me he didn't want to hear me "exhasperate". How would you handle that?

There are some blessed exceptions but many if not most bosses are slow to see their own conduct as inappropriate or insensitive. I think your boss was out of line but he sounds like the kind that wouldn't respond well to confrontation. Personally, I would just blow the incident off but if his conduct continues to be aggravating I would start looking for another position. This is just what I would do though, you know the specifics and intangibles in a way I can't. I would just caution you against saying or doing things that are only going to harm you or your career in the long run.

Well, first I would take a good, honest look at what happened. Did you "sigh" in front of a patient? Were you walking around all day pissy because the other recovery assistant "takes time off on the busiest days and left you to pull her weight too?" Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt your job is stressful and doctors are notoriously "unpleasant" to the help... Just make sure when the times are tough that it brings out the best in you. Employers notice when people consistently step up.

Personally, I think unless you dislike your career, I would take his comment as constructive criticism and move past it...

Best of luck.

I would find a place that would appreciate my hard work, and when Dr. Undreamy asked me why I was leaving, I'd tell him that I wanted to work in an environment that recognized excellent performance (like the performance I had provided for him.)
