I have never heard of feeder spiders so I will assume you cought it in the wild. bad idea to feed caught insects/arachnids etc to you lizard. stick with store bought feeders you cannot guarantee the ones in your backyard are free of pesticides and other poisons.

raven c I hope you come back and go to this website lizards do have teeth thats a myth. don't believe me stick your finger along ones mouth and feel along the bottom edge. you should do this if your lizard/dragon will let you safely to check for absesses according to my vet. if you dont feel safe use a toungue depressor or a popsicle stick to move his lips around and visualize for discolorations or bumps if any are found take him to a vet. my iguana just had an absess and my vet showed my how to check for them the sooner you get them in the easier to get rid of.

You have to be really careful using spiders to feed your pet. There are MANY different types of spiders, that may be harmless to us, but fatal to other creatures. Sometimes, reptiles sense when something is dangerous, it just doesn't wet their appetite. A word of CAUTION: If you are not absolutely possitive what kind of spider it is, or what is safe or not, take it out! It could bite her and make her really sick, or worse. Try different insects, even worms. Also check the temp. where she basks. Sometimes they get too hot, and will not eat. (You'd think they'd just move, if they got to hot, but they don't always realize what the problem is-they get lethargic)

Also, we have noticed with ours, that the same kind of lizard, will eat differently, than others. Sometimes encouraging a varied diet, helps, crickets, mealworms, some will even eat fruit. It's better to give them a variety, for nutritions sake, and it also helps you determine "what" they like, and keeps them from getting spoiled on "preferred" foods. They well actually get selective after awhile, if you only feed one type. Just like a little kid, who won't eat their vegetables, or only wants sweets all of the time.

NOTE: Just keep an eye on her, try different foods, and see how she does in a few days. Since you just got her, she's probably just a little stressed, it takes them a little while to adjust sometimes to their new environment.

I seriously would not be feeding spiders to my lizards -They may have toxins that could harm her, not to mention not having much actual nutritional value. -consider commercial wax worms or small crickets - ( raised and fed with supplemental vitamins and minerals).
You did not mention the type of lizard - do some research to understand care and feeding . If your lizard is pregnant (gravid) she may not be that interested in food unless she is not well nourished to begin with..Make sure you meet the heat requirements - a cold lizard will not eat! Taken care of your lizard will live far longer than the so called "life expectancy" My daughter has 14 year old leopard geckos still doing great.
Remember, you are the one who creates its captive world, so be a good caretaker - good luck.

lizards do eat spiders in the wild, but in captivity they prefere meal worms. depending on the size of your lizard, u may want to cut the meal worm in half- only because they are very tough, and lizards DO NOT have teeth. Breeding season or not- a lizard will eat. Another thing, depending on the spider, it might attack your lizard. It's best just not to feed your lizard that.

Wht type of lizard is it? I wouldn't feed a lizard a spider. You should stick to crickets and mealworms. Most lizards don't eat the first few days that you get them. They are adjusting to the new surroundings.

I'd be careful about putting spiders into the enclosure with your lizard. I'd suggest sticking with crickets, moths, etc. Bugs that won't bite back, especially if you don't know the type of spider!
