My mother has been seeing apparitions in her house for the past few years and is embarrassed to tell anyone. She's 82 and is not crazy (yet). She is awake at night and not on any medication when she see them and does not know who they are. She never saw them when my father was alive. She never sees him. She has seen some dogs and a man and a woman who she does not know. She is afraid and sleeps with the light on now. When the light is on, they go away. Can you help.

OMG Ghosts! You may think this is a joke but I really think she may have a ghost in the house. This is really serious. I feel very bad for her. It may be a friendly spirit though, like a family memeber from the other side, trying to contact her. Sadly though, she is 82, and maybe she is experiencing the onset of dementia. Alot of my elderly patients report seeing things that are not really there.

Assuming there are no medical or mental complications, this is perplexing. If she doesn't see them clearly, they may only be shadows. If she sees them in extreme detail she may be dozing off by accident and not able to tell the difference between the recurring dream and life.

If she sees them clearly and is definitely not asleep, who knows, they may even be supernatural occurances. Many stories focus on the ghosts of the building. If it were my mother, I would have a doctor perform tests to check for any mental disease. If there is no sign of any, perhaps you could stay in her house for a couple days, so if she sees them she could call you, and you can see for yourself.

If you are determined that this is a supernatural, ghostly occurance, do some research on previous owners of the home, or your mother's life. It sounds almost like a ghost movie doesn't it? You have to search through old tomes, and finally fulfill their last needs, to keep them from haunting the house. But any of these options are completely up to you and your mother. I hope this can be resolved.

Apparitions are ghostly appearances. Being 82 makes me think there is something going on health-wise with her. Fatigue from the day may bring this to the surface. She should discuss this with her physician even though it is embarrassing. Also, elderly people are usually on several medications. They should be reviewed for possible over-medication or interaction. Good luck with this sensitive issue. Please help her through this.

More than likely, since her husband passed away she became more open and vulnerable to seeing aparitions. They are probably people who either lived in the house prior or on the property if the house was built new when your grandmother moved in. If she is religious have a priest come to bless the house. They are trying to communicate, probably to let them know who they were, how they died, etc. If they are not hurting her, she should really not be too afraid of them.

Your mother needs to tell them that they do not belong there and it is time for them to move on. Tell her to ask God to help her not be afraid and have her say "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus and command you by his authority to leave and not return". She must sound confident and firm. Also, I suggest that she annoint the doors and windows with blessed holy water, or oil, making a sign of the cross and saying " I bless this house in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." She need only do this if the spirits don't leave. If this continues, she may have a neorologycal disorder and needs to see a doctor. Please don't take my suggestions lightly. I have had spirits in my house, and this is what I did to make them leave and they left.

Your mother is probably seeing things. Seeing apparitions can be from just seeing things from the imagination, or not. Personally I don't believe in stuff like that, so don't try to sell it to me. If she really believes it, she is probably just imagining it. And if it's supposed to be true, I dare ANYONE or anything to take me to it. But no one can, because it doesn't happen.

spirits in general can not hurt ppl...if it's a manifestation of negative energy then that is a whole different story...research the house and the surrounding areas...there may have been a burial ground or even a tragic event happen there...if the problem does not resolve on it's own...contact your local ghost hunter association and see what they suggest...i wish you the best of luck...

She needs to invite a priest to come over and exorcise them. There are also professional ghost hunters who can help her. I would move.
