I walked around at a 2 for weeks. Do some major walking & if your doctor says it is OK have sex. I did a lot of laundry and cleaning while waiting...I also vacuumed the entire house. I was as active as possible because I didn't want to be induced. Don't worry hun it will happen soon. Just hang in there and walk your little heart out. Have you had any contractions yet???

Oh and if anyone says try some type of oil....DON"T DO IT!!! I am telling you from experience...all it did was make me sick and the baby had to be put on antibiotics too. Hang in there.

Since each woman & pregnancy are different I will share this...
1st pregnancy 23 &1/2 hours start to finish
2nd baby 8 hours total
3rd baby was 12 total hours & 2 pushes =)

Good luck & congrats!

i had my daughter at 35 weeks. at 7 months pregnant i went into labor (as a result of a car accident) and found out my cervix was shrinking. A couple of weeks later I was 80% effaced and 2 cm dialated I stayed that way until 2 days before i gave birth. I went to doc and they said i was 100% effaced and 3cm dialated. 2 days later i started having contractions that started 3 mins apart. I gave birth to my daughter 4 hours later. I was pretty fortunate having a short labor. when u hear of ppl being in labor for 28 hours or whatever it's b/c it takes so long to efface. I would say you will go soon. Remember (if this is ur first) to watch for the mucus plug, then u know u'll deliever in less than a week. watch for the baby to stop moving for a couple days (meaning less active). those are some signs u can watch for

I was 35 weeks when the doctor told me that I was 2-3 cm and 75% effaced. And trust me I thought for sure that day I was gonna have a baby. But then a week went bye, then another, and finally the day before I would be 38 weeks, I started feeling pressure in my back when I woke up. And throughout the day it got worse. Then about 7 that night all of a sudden I started having contractions. I thought they were just braxton hicks, but they were getting worse and closer together. then at 9 oclock my husband called the doctor and told him that I was having strong contractions every 5 minutes. He said to go to the hospital. I went and I was still only 2-3! They made me walk for an hour, and I moved up to 4cm and sure enough the day I was 38 weeks pregnant, at 3 in the morning I had my beautiful baby girl. So Trust me, it will hit you when you don't even think about it!

I'm assuming that this is your first pregnancy? Chances are your body is gearing up for delivery but it's taking it's slow time doing it. The baby just isn't ready to come out yet! There isn't any need to worry- a friend of mine was dialated for a month before she gave birth. Your body has a natural ability to know when the time is right. As far as induction; I was induced with my first and it wasn't fun. A lot of times induction causes a c-section because your isn't really ready for delivery and it puts the baby in stress. My daughter's heart rate dropped really low after being induced with 12 hours of labor and I ended up having a c-section. I have talked with a lot of my friends from a playgroup who have either had the same experience or have heard that from another friend.

Hang in there; you're just about ready!!! Best of luck with your new baby!

Please don't get hung up on numbers. Dilation and effacement mean nothing before labour, here in the UK it's not routine to check for them and we still manage healthy babies! I never had an examination throughout my pregnancy, labour and birth.

Please don't get upset. Induction is only necessary when you have a medical condition making continuing pregnancy dangerous or you are very overdue and your baby shows signs of stress. Your baby is not even due yet, and the average first time pregnancy is 41 weeks 1 day. Many doctors are very induction happy to fit their schedule but there are more risks with an induced birth than with a spontaneous labour. Inductions are more likely to end in vacuum, forceps, tears, c-sections etc. You're more likely to need pain relief, the labour is usually longer and more intense.

I know it's hard but your baby will come when it is ready. Your cervix is doing it's job which is to keep your baby in till then! Please try to enjoy these last couple of weeks, you will never be able to get them back. Read, rest, relax, sleep! It'll be a while before you are able to again.

Good luck with the birth and congratulations on your soon to be newborn. Please try not to be too negative, and let your baby come when it wants to!
