have seen 7 "all or nothing games" ie 4 quarter finals 2 semi finals and the final.

why wont they give us more exciting matches where theres something at stake, and where there is a clear winner and loser?

if not why dont they call it the world league and eliminate the knock out element altogether?

All or nothing for me! I would rather have seen 4 quarters, 2 semis and 1 final. This would make the CWC more competitive and exciting. They won't do it though cos most people would get bored (especially the Barmy Army who are really football hooligans in disguise), so they opt to keep it short and sweet.

As for "fluke" results like Ireland getting through, that's the beauty of cricket - it's not always the best team (on paper) who goes on to win. I remember a fantastic test match where the Aussies played against the Windies in March 1999 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Lara needed about 80 runs to win the test match, and he only had Ambrose and Walsh with him. The Windies won by 1 wicket, and it was one of the most exciting test matches I've ever had the privilege to watch.

What fun and excitement would there be if only the top-ranked teams went through? I have bets on Sri Lanka to win.

With two of the four "big money" nations (india and pakistan) already knocked out by shock results (one even concluding in a murder) I doubt the ICC want to risk a fluke victory knocking out another. ODI cricket is already criticised for being very open to fluke results, I think making the super eights a knockout round would exarcebate this complaint.

I'd rather see two matches per team in the super eights than watch a Scotland vs Bermuda world cup final, funny as it would be. Two games does more to ensure that the best team will progress. Although that doesn't seem to have worked so far - the ICC must be panicking that Ireland and Bangladesh made the Super Eights at the expense of Pakistan and India, that is NOT what they planned.

In my opinion most of the "minnows" were only included so that all the test nations could progress to the second round, unlike previous years when at least two "big" teams have had to go home empty handed. Now they have a club team in the super eights! Oops.

They've called it the Super 8, not the World Cup quarter finals..did you not expect something lucrative...sorry I mean draining on fans pockets...sorry I mean different....

India aren't technically out yet (2350 GMT Fri)

There was a knockout match in Bob Woolmer's hotel room, and there was a clear loser. That exciting enough?
