I have two turtles. Just a moment ago at supper i saw them both really close together. They kept bringing their front claws up to their head and did sorta like a fish flipper movement. Like they sorta looked like a fish. Are they mating? I got mine in september 2006 and my bro got his in febuary 2007. Were they just playing around?Whats goin on with them plz help..!!!(they seemed ok tho but i'd like ur opinion)

How cute ! Y ou have male turtles ! This is part of their mating ritual. -the long fingernail display ( only males have the long front claws) . Watch closely - it may be only one doing the "in your face" nail flashing . If so you have a HOT female - . I would say get a haul out ready for egg laying. Otherwise you have two really macho males doin' the posin' thing with each other . Better get them a female.(look for short front claws = female )

Its a mating ritual. Yet I've known two males to do that. So it could also be a form of communication or sparring. But normally it is for courting.
This is how you tell the sex of most aquatic turtles...
Males have much longer claws.
Males anus is further out on tail.
Males tail is not as fat.
Females tail is fatter and longer.
Females get a bit larger.

It is a mating ritual. Much more used by sliders then other turtles.

Flipper talk is courting... mating is on the other end.

Sounds to me like they were mating.
