How did we allow ourselves to become second rate citizens in our own country?
A pratt called Edward Heath, the British Prime Minister before Maggie Thatcher asked the country to vote in a referendum of whether or noy we wished to remain a member of the Common Market.
British sovereignty, free from external control would not be affected. So the nation voted and much to my surprise and everyone elses, the Yes vote won by a narrow margin.
But Heath had lied to the nation, and later confessed that he ws quite willing to sacrifice our independence for a United States of Europe.
How the Common Market became the European Union, I have no idea, but I do know that the electorate had no say in the matter. The greasy slither of lawyer politicians in government signed the treaties on their own behalf and not ours.
During the last few years France and other EU members were given the opportunity in national referendums on whether they wanted to accept a European Constitution, and bestow more powers on the EU Parliament. A "YesVote or a No Vote" would they assured us be final.
Under pressure to give the British the same right to have their say, Princess Brenda Blair reluctantly agreed that Britain would have a referendum too.
However, when the French screwed its own government and voted, "None!" It was argued, by Brenda and Mandy, that as the EU Constitution was now dead, it would be pointless to allow the British a referendum.
This week Brenda has agreed to accept a modified EU Constitution, before he has even studied it or allowed parliament to debate it.
So that's where we are now, two lying PM's aided by their cronies and Chancellors have sold Britain down the river.
As for the government, the servant of the people not representing us, that's because some insignificant MP argued that although he was elected to represent his constituants, he had a right to vote according to his conscience. Which means "I'll vote how I want and bugger the people who're paying my wages."
Democratic, Parliament ain't.

We were conned, at least the majority were. It was either that or the referendum was fixed by the Heath and Wilson governments, which also a possibility, I was not in the country, along with most seafarers, and had no say as this was sprung on the country with lies and deceit. Strange that the politicians have not only not changed but are even more likely to lie to the public. Don't expect Blair or Brown to represent the British public they are much to interested in coining in any graft they can get from Brussels to keep us in the gravy train. By the way the accounts have never been signed off by any accountants as they are obviously impossible to check, this would close down any other public company and have the directors in jail. the politicians will cover for each other forever.

The vote to join the Common Market was in the small print of the manifesto for the 1970 General Election when everyone wanted to get rid of Wilson. The public perceived a homosexual like Heath to be a better bet than Wilson whose government had caused considerable damage to the country.
I cried when Heath died because I always held on to the hope that one day he would be hanged for treason.

Yes they did. There was a referendum in 1975 when the country voted to stay in Europe by a 2 to 1 majority.
If you weren't born then, that's tough. No one asked you about declaring war on Nazi Germany either.
And I'm not a second rate citizen! If your self image is that low, it's not Europe's fault.

We seem to be doing fairly well with our connection with EU but you hint otherwise. I think the government acted for us thinking it was the best path to take. There was no referendum and as you go on to say it is for the government to represent the majority view. The majority voted them in.

You can always leave if you don't like it.
nobody asked me whether I wanted to be in the EU, or the UK, or even England. But I can see the benefits of being in all three - so I'm staying.

try and see yourself as a non european free britain, and use pre european britain as a guide to how free you would have been then and how enslaved you are now, you should come to the conclusion that you and your country has been captured by europe your gov is brussels gov and not yours your policeforce is europes occupying forces along with the judges ect. so you must see yourself in a warfare situation with your gov being the enemy.
