I agree, people don't hear the words they just hear what make their speakers go boom.

I had never payed attention to the lyrics. Now I kinda do but when they talk nonsense and the beat is wacked, which is most rap songs today I dont listen to it nomore. I'm a huge fan of rap instrumentals or beat.

What else IS there?? A bunch of lyrics spoken too fast to be truly appreciated, and a beat.
Music actually requires melody, so in effect rap is merely poetry/spoken word. The rap songs you hear 90% of the time "borrow" melody from a classic.

I'd have to agree. I am not a rap fan, but the few I do like, it is because of the beat

Me. All the popular rap songs are now about money, fame or girls. Nobody really pays attention to the lyrics anymore.

Yes, today's mainstream rap is about "salt shakers" and "laffy taffy". Haha wow. Rap is going nowhere now. I'm very picky when listening to it.
