I had never payed attention to the lyrics. Now I kinda do but when they talk nonsense and the beat is wacked, which is most rap songs today I dont listen to it nomore. I'm a huge fan of rap instrumentals or beat.

What else IS there?? A bunch of lyrics spoken too fast to be truly appreciated, and a beat.

Music actually requires melody, so in effect rap is merely poetry/spoken word. The rap songs you hear 90% of the time "borrow" melody from a classic.
