It depends on the type of person you are. I took 18 in my first semester and handled it just fine. All of those courses were vital ot my major, but none were so naturally challenging that I would loose out on anything. Math and Science are my weak spots, so I planned to take that stuff in the summer semesters.
Do what is comfortable in terms of course load. If you need to bump up your semseter credits, make sure you can handle the work before you mess up one course for the sake of another.

It definatley depends. If it is youre first semester I would say that 19 is too much. Or if you plan on holding a job, or being very involved on campus you might not have time for all of them. Beyong that, I know that I would probably reach a burn out point very quickly if i took 19 hours, especially around mid terms and finals. Personally, unless it is really necessary I would not try to take 19.

That's a very heavy course load - somewhat depends on the difficulty of the classes and whether or not you can get by with about 5 hours a sleep each night.

Depends on your other responsibilities. I once took 5 master's classes (much historical research and writing) my profs said I was crazy. I did it with an A/3.5 average. I took time off from work and treated it like a job with plenty of overtime. Had coffee at the computer every morning and worked my butt off.
