It is either that the wheels are rubbing something under the car like the wheel well or it might be your front suspension components like the swing arms or coils. You might be able to lubricate them and fix the problem. If not, you might have to replace them.

it sounds like from the upper and or lower ball joints. Check and see if the rubber boot from the ball joint is ripped or torn. If it is that is a tell tale sign that all of the lubrication had dried out. You can also feel the ball joint knock when you step on the brake and when you accelerate from a dead stop. I recommend replacing the upper control arm on both sides. They will pop off if it has too nuch play in them. Check the lower arm also. You can't buy just the ball joint, you have to buy the control arm as a whole. I just changed mine on my 97 thunderbird today as a matter of fact. If you do it yourself I takes about 15 minutes to replace. Although I am an experienced mechanic. For the average joe, about 1 hr.

I know this is gonna sound like a random answer, but honest to goodness, I swear on my gramma's grave, this happened!
It was a really really windy day - like knock you over windy - and I left my friend's house in my minivan, and on the way home, there was this really weird grinding noise coming from my left front end. So I got home, and guess what it was?!? An empty paint can had gotten lodged in my wheelwell between the tire and the suspension.

check your ball joints and tie rods, jack the car up, put yor right hand on the bottom of the tire, and push in, and take your left hand and pull out on the top, if you have anymovement, its most likely a ball joint. to check tie rods dont jack the car up, reach under it and palm the tie rod, have someone rock the wheel back and fourth, if u feel movement then the tie rod is trashed, they arent hrd to replace but make sure u get an alignment after or you will be buying new tires

Would have to agree about the tie rod ends. My '91 did the same thing when turning sharp to the steering stops... greased the tie rod ends and it went away almost instantly. Just my 2cents
