This will probably tick off a few people but I'm gonna ask anyway....If it is illegal to give babies or kids alcohol or cigs and child welfare watches to make sure a child isn't being abused then why is it not illegal for a woman to smoke or drink while pregnant? If child welfare is there to protect kids then why not protect them from the start? They don't have a choice what gets put into their lil bodies like the mom puffing a cig or drink. Why is that not child abuse? I'm just asking! It's my oppinion so don't people get all offended.

You know what...you shouldn't be sorry if you offend people with this question because everybody should have the same type of answer! Its not ok for women to smoke or drink when they're with child. and if you do affend someone itmost likely because they are one of the ppl doing it! I think it so irresponsible that ppl smoke and stuff while they are pregnant. I have seen a lot of mothers doing that and I want to just slap them!

What do I think? I know they are making the unborn child smoke whether it should or not. I am a mother of 2 who quit smoking the minute I discovered I was pregnant with each child. Nor did I drink a beer. Now I do not smoke either.

It sucks.. I agree with you. I can handle the drinking part though, it pisses me off but i can handle that, but the smoking? Gee that pisses me really off.. I don't think they should smoke at all pregnant or not! You want to smoke, do it at home, not on the bus or on the bus stop when there is a mother with a stroller. They are just addicted and cannot give up.. It ticks me off.. It is child abuse in my opinion but the baby is not seen as a child, but as a fetus when it's not born yet so there are no rights really..

I totally agree with you. The baby could possibly have brain damage at birth, the mother and the baby could both have an early death. It's just not smart to smoke or drink during a pregnancy or any time for that matter.

Ok, so what about the mothers who buy "Lunchables" with no actual nutritional value, and loads of preservatives, or the people who burn candles in the house, (it's still toxic smoke), and the people who feed their children, sugar, meat or anything that has been proved unhealthy?
What about non flame retardant pajamas?
How many kids have been abducted from their own bedrooms, so sleeping in a separate room is putting your child at risk
My mother smoked while pregnant and I have always been very healthy,
What ever happened to minding to your own life?
Is your life so easy that you have time to worry about what others are doing?
Soon we will all be eating soilent green and proclaiming how yummy it is.

No offense to anyone but I think that people who smoke while being pregnant are stupid. They should at least control their urges to smoke until the pregnancy is over. Sometimes it seems that they don't want to understand the damaga they cause.

I think they are purposely trying to kill their babies. If they really loved them they could quit.
