My friend wears a shirt sometimes with Arabic writing on it and Ive noticed that he gets some weird stares from people in passing. I would like to see how many people would actually wear one and if not what would be the reason not to.

Just to let you know: It has nothing to do with the ISLAMIC religion, its Arabic writing, secondly, it has a message of peace translated in English on the shirt.

Nike used to make alot of t-shirts with arabic writing on it and some had the translation too.
The Arabic language is symbolic and alot of people like it.
Allot of people like kabobs, doesn't mean they have to be Middle-Eastern to eat it.

What the hell? I don't know Arabic. I'm American 100%. I have nothing against people of the Arabic nation except for the ones that breathe and have a heartbeat, but hey, I'm not going to go strutting around in an Arabic shirt. Give me a break.

Sure, why not? We Americans in general tend to be closed-minded cattle, so someone's got to step up and stop being afraid of what the scary right-wing government might think isn't patriotic.
Oh, and to the guy 2 or 3 comments up, there isn't one "Arabic nation" moron. The Arabic people inhabit numerous nations spanning three continents, and most of them are farmers, artisans, businessmen, etc. and have no qualms with you except that you support blowing up their innocent children. Get educated before you start condemning the people that brought Europe out of the Dark Ages.

Definitly, do not wear a shirt with Arabic writing on it because if your friend already gets stares from people, who knows how many stares you'll get. Stick with the English launguage.

Sure why not? Theres a reputable drum-set company (http://www.zildjian.com/) that uses an arabic-looking script. And alot of times it can be used in logos and designs that have to do with pot-smoking, hashish, bongs, and hookas...so maybe they think it gives them street cred. And maybe if the shirt has to do with spirituality, whats the harm in displaying your interest or affinity for it? As long as we have the first ammendmant in effect I see no reason why we can't wear whatever we want regardless of whatever people are doing with their eyes with these so-called "weird stares". Screw 'em, have fun.

yeah, cuz im a tomboy. i dont care what i wear. actually im just a plain girl. cuz i hate to go shopping but i lik others to go and shop 4 me and that means, im a girly girl in style but lik others to shop for me so the answer now is no. that is out of style. but once i move into the country, nothing matters. almost no neighbors to care what you look like. anyway, good luck on your problem with your friends shirt and i hope you get a lot of answers that you can trust.

Well, I'm not Arabic and can't read the writing, so I wouldn't. As long as it's not a terroristic message I see no problem with it.

I'd wear if if it was in black only with whatever color lettering.
I'm armenian/hispanic, so I know a little bit of arabic and armenian. So if I'll be able to read it and know what it says and like it, I'd wear it.
Hell what people think, its all on how you present yourself and feel.
