Bad word for it. Better term would be "witness testimony" - because it's testimony by a witness who can identify the perpetrator.

And that is a GOOD thing. Don't listen to anyone who says "Don't snitch."

Of course, the police had better be able to protect them.

Might I suggest that we all join the American Tea Party Movement before we all become second class citizens in our own damn country. Edit: We have a bunch of money grubbing retards running our country. The last time I checked they are supposed to be listening to the American people, and not the cooperate special interest, or even the minority special interest. They may never get mass amnesty passed for the illegals, but little by little they will slide in laws, and bylaws that will add up to the same thing.

Testimony of an informant, who, except for not being under arrest, is probably of similar character to the people he is testfying against. It is considered easy to impeach because the snitch has often committed worse offenses than those against whom he testifies & has often been promised some benefit for his testimony.
