I have an HP with a standard VGA video card. Will Vista work decent at all?

You can download this utility from Microsoft, run it on your computer to get a report so that you'll have general idea if your computer is good for the upgrade.

1) You will need lots of system memory, MS says 1GB, I 'll say at least 2GB, always double the recommendation.

2) You'll need a good graphic card in order to take advantage of the graphic effects from Vista

3) If your system is not fast enough, Vista will disable the graphic effect aka the Areo desktop and fall back to default.

Nope!
Some parts will be ok, other parts will operate so slow yo will be very frustrated.
You won't get a lot of the advanced features of Vista.

When you begin to install windows vista it will teste your hardware to decide if it is compatibale with vista , if not vista will not be installed.
